On May 21, 2026, Nala crossed the Rainbow Bridge at home, in the place she knew & loved. 🐈⬛🌈 6 years ago, I was looking for a shelter cat who could live as an only cat, safely indoors with a secured balcony. I found Nala: 1.5 years old, weighing only 2.8 kg, living with kidney issues, needing a lifelong renal diet, and already having been returned to the shelter twice. I knew straight away: you were meant to be mine. On day 3 at home, her first bladder infection showed us that our journey would be different. Then came the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, stage 2, and the words: “You should prepare yourself — this cat will not grow old.” But Nala was so much more than a diagnosis. Together, we learned to navigate good & difficult phases, urine samples, blood tests, renal food, puppy pads, vet visits, and our own special routines. I learned how to read you. An accident on the sofa was never “just” an accident — it was your way of telling me that something was wrong. You had such deep separation anxiety and never wanted to be alone for long. I travelled less, working from home became our greatest gift, and every absence required loving around-the-clock care. We had our little rituals: morning belly rubs, your daily clicker training after work, which you soon began to demand, your waiting at the door, and all the quiet moments we shared. In 2023, your kidney values worsened. In 2026, everything changed suddenly and far too quickly. We explored every possible option, including treatment at a clinic. But I knew that being away from home and separated from me would have caused you immense stress and fear. When your tiny body could no longer carry on, I made the hardest decision I have ever had to make. Even though I was not ready to let you go, I chose to spare you further stress and give you the peace you deserved. You did not have to be alone. You did not have to stay in a clinic. You were able to leave surrounded by the safety, familiarity, and love of your home. For six years and one month, you were my home, my everyday life, my responsibility, my little teammate, and my Nala Mädele. I miss you beyond words. Forever loved. Forever with me. 🤍🌈

Run free, little angel. Martina Georgi
